The change in Macroinvertebrate populations over the last 30 years shows the possible effects of hydroclimatic and thermal factors on the structure and behaviour of such populations on a regional scale. Notwithstanding local peculiarities, there is a gradual trend towards standardisation in the populations found on the Rhone as a result of invasive species, the floods of autumn 2002 and the rise in water temperature following the 2003 heatwave.
